U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, said many opportunities are available to allow for legal immigration into the United States.
As President Donald Trump works to slow illegal immigration, Roy said in a committee hearing that millions of people enter legally every year with visas via student programs, and through other pathways for permanent residency, underscoring the nation’s robust system for immigration.
Roy elaborated on the scale of legal immigration, and noted that more than 10 million individuals enter the U.S. each year through non-immigrant visas. He also mentioned the numerous additional entries allowed by the Visa Waiver Program, highlighting the U.S.’ generosity in accommodating immigration, as long as it follows lawful procedure.
“There is an enormous opportunity to come here legally right now,” Roy said.
