Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said the Pentagon welcomes the Department of Government Efficiency as part of a strategic plan aimed at improving efficiency and cutting waste throughout the Department of Defense.
Speaking to reporters, Hegseth mentioned the need to address redundancies, specifically in headquarters staffing and climate change programs, stating that the Pentagon’s real priority is national security, not anything having to do with environmental policy. He also brought up his plans to collaborate with Elon Musk’s DOGE team to enhance procurement, acquisition of weapons systems and operational effectiveness.
“We’re in the business of deterring and winning wars,” Hegseth said. “Every dollar we save here is a dollar that goes to warfighters, and that’s good for the American people.”
