Thousands of demonstrators have gathered in the nation’s capital before Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th president.

Activists kicked off the weekend of protests Saturday, promising a mix of peaceful protests as Inauguration Day has become a focal point for public dissent by offering a stage for people to voice their approval or opposition to the incoming administration.

Ahead of the inauguration, Washington D.C. closed roads as the capital prepared for the incoming president’s massive influx of supporters and protesters.

Streets surrounding the Capital, the White House, Capital One Arena, and other areas of the facility have been closed off by fences or barricades.

Due to security concerns and inclement weather, the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies have been moved inside the U.S. Capitol to the Rotunda, significantly limiting the number of available seats.

Four subway stations across D.C. will be closed, and several bridges and ramps from Virginia to D.C. may also be shut down. Additionally, 25,000 law enforcement personnel are reportedly expected to be present on inauguration day.

According to a statement, the National Guard will also support the inauguration with around 7,800 soldiers and airmen, providing security, transportation, crowd management, and medical assistance.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and The Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith swore in officers from over 170 police agencies across the nation to safe guard Trump’s inauguration.

This effort is combined through multiple agencies, such as the Secret Service, FBI, and local police, with approximately 40 states and territories contributing guard members for the inauguration.
