Some products with cucumbers in Albertsons and Safeway stores in El Paso, Texas, Arizona, Utah, Nevada and New Mexico may contain salmonella.

According to a news release from the chain, it is an “active illness outbreak.”

“As soon as we learned of this issue, we immediately acted to protect consumers. We are working closely with authorities and the implicated ranch to determine the possible cause,” Craig Slate, President at SunFed, the company the originally recalled the cucumbers sold in large quantities, said in a statement.

While Albertsons recall specifically pertains to the Western U.S., the SunFed’s recall of the “whole fresh American cucumbers” is across the nation, including to “foodservice and retail outlets.”

“Here at SunFed, food safety and consumer health and wellness have been our priorities for more than 30 years. We require all of our growers to strictly comply with the FDA food safety requirements,” he added.

The cucumbers that may carry the illness were sold in vegetable trays and platters with expirations usually ranging from Nov. 28 until Dec. 6-8. The full list of products is here.

SunFed said that they were informed by the federal Food and Drug Administration of the outbreak ranging from mid-October to mid-November thus far. The company said the cucumbers were grown at a farm in Sonora, Mexico.
